The Goat Run (adjacent to and at times on the Piedmont Ski Trail) was a rainy and enjoyable romp. Lots of rocky hills, rollers and mud.
As always, I can't believe how many people do these races - I was number 20 and there were quite a few after me AND it was raining. What a crazy (and fun) bunch we are.
The rain varied from light to moderate. The best and deepest mud was right before the end.
The best wipeout I got to witness was when the woman I was running with looked at the guy warning us to watch out for the mud and then promptly went down into it. Oooo, hope she had a towel in the car.
5k and I managed a 9:45 pace. Walked up the hills at the end - need to work on that endurance thing. Heart was working so hard at times, I swear there was steam coming out of the heart rate monitor. I hear about this phenomenon of 'picking off' the person ahead of you. I was more 'clinging onto' than picking off. But hey, as long as you're out there doing it, it's all good, right? I was impressed, seeing the folks heading out to do the whole thing again, after they got back. Someday.
