DXC SKI CENTERS

Grand Avenue Nordic Center

The Grand Avenue Nordic Center is a transformative new cross-country ski center in Duluth with newly designed trails, Nordic-dedicated snowmaking, lights, daily grooming, and a full-service chalet, located at the base of Spirit Mountain. DXC has been working closely with the City of Duluth to develop this exciting project. The City has committed a large portion of the funding for Grand Avenue Nordic Center – $1 million in 1/2 & 1/2 Tourism tax dollars – and DXC initially committed to raising $500k within the ski community to make this project a reality, and in early 2018 committed to raising an additional $250k, for a total of $750k.

Lester-Amity Chalet

The Lester-Amity Chalet is a year-round trail hub and endurance community center in eastern Duluth. DXC leases the building – once planned to be demolished– from the City of Duluth. Lester-Amity Chalet brings our community together and inspires healthy outdoor recreation, environmental responsibility and active, lifelong learning. DXC plans to have the Chalet open on Thursdays and weekends during January and February 2017 – it's a great place to grab a cup of cocoa, meet friends, change boots, and warm up after a ski on the beautiful Lester-Amity ski trails!

Spirit Mountain Trails

The Duluth XC Ski Club (DXC) operates the Spirit Mountain Nordic Center under an agreement with the City of Duluth and Spirit Mountain. DXC is responsible for maintaining and staffing the Nordic Center and coordinating its use by various user groups. The Spirit Mountain Nordic Center Chalet is staffed by volunteers, and as such, hours are subject to change at anytime. However, it is generally open to visitors from 10AM to 5PM daily, from January until the snow is gone!

The Spirit Mountain trails do not receive Grant-in-Aid funding from the state for their upkeep, so the financial responsibility lies with the Duluth XC Ski Club and the City of Duluth. In addition, the club depends primarily on volunteers to keep this facility and the trails in good condition. DXC regularly grooms the Spirit Mountain trails. Groomers are both volunteers and paid professionals paid by DXC. We have made investments in new grooming equipment to create a great ski experience.
