  2. Tuesdays beginning on January 18, running through February 22, 2022.

  3. Maximum of 10 participants, so sign up now!

  4. Coach will email participants with the plan for the week including location, technique, and focus for the week.

  5. Cost: $120

  6. Meet your Coach!: Louise Levy

"Hi! My name is Louise Levy. I have been skiing since 1976, when my parents moved me and my little brother from the deep South to northern Minnesota. Those were the days of Olympian Bill Koch and before the skate technique. I raced from grade school through graduate school, on teams or as a citizen racer. Now I enter races to help new skiers finish with a smile. The way I see it, just because you're slow, doesn't mean your technique is bad, and just because you're fast, doesn't mean your technique is efficient. You can be super slow with excellent technique or pretty darn fast even with inefficient movements. Lessons can be for everyone My job as a XC ski instructor is to help you become a more beautiful and efficient skier. The rest is up to you!"

INTERMEDIATE SESSION (SKATE ONLY): UPDATE (JAN 13, 2022): CLASS FULL, REGISTRATION CLOSED

Are you a relatively experienced skate skier, but feel like you’re stuck in some old habits that are holding you back from improving your skiing or racing faster? Or are you relatively new to skate skiing but feel like you’ve mastered the basics and need help to take it to the next level? The intermediate skate skiing session is a great way to improve your skate skiing. Coach Kara Salmela has years of racing and training experience in skate skiing. As a former world-class biathlete, she spent years perfecting and learning everything there is to know about skate skiing, and now she looks forward to transferring that deep knowledge to you!

Kara Salmela is a 2 time Olympic Biathlete. She competed in the 1998 Nagano games and the 2002 Salt Lake City games. She began skiing in High School, fell in love with it, continued in college and then found Biathlon while skiing at Northern Michigan University. She spent 10 years competing in Biathlon on the World Cup circuit. After retiring in 2002 from Biathlon, she moved to Duluth and began coaching Women’s clinics and helped start a kids cross country ski program called Nordic North Stars which is still going strong today. Kara loves to share her enthusiasm for nordic skiing and is looking forward to another amazing winter in Duluth.

  2. Tuesdays beginning on January 18, running through March 8, 2022.

  6. Meet your Coach: Patti Harvieux

"A life-long endurance athlete in running, skiing, rowing and paddling, currently an elite wave skier, I raced cross-country and track through college at the U of MN (mid-80s), and have been coaching with the Duluth East Nordic ski team for the last 8 years. My ideal days are spent with friends or family on various trails and/or waterways exploring the beauty of our world. Though I certainly love to push myself to exhaustion on occasion, I have found a smarter approach to longevity in racing is to train with purpose year round and have adapted through the years to understand when to push the volume, when to ramp up the speed, and when to recuperate and absorb."

FOR ALL SESSIONS:

Skiers must provide their own equipment.

Make sure you have a Trail Pass, if required at that week's choice of a trail. For Duluth municipal trails, purchase your MN Ski Pass, which is required for skiers aged 16+ on city-groomed trails.
